Introduction: Talking about the fact that I was going to go to Egypt I got a million phrases along the lines of "Are you crazy? They don't respect women and they'll harass you" "They cheat tourists at every turn, you'll lose your money" "It's dirty and poverty around there, what's there to see". I want to confirm or refute these theories and summarize the whole truth about Egypt.
Part 1: Culture and manners of the Egyptians: Egypt is a Muslim country, although many Egyptians are Christians. In spite of this, it is customary for women in this country to cover their bodies, especially shoulders, knees, and cleavage. Therefore, it goes without saying that when tourists arrive and girls go out on the street in shorts that do not even fully cover their butt, Egyptians go crazy. It's an adult website picture come to life for them.
As for the dirty streets, any citizen of this country would agree. They even joke that if you throw a bottle of water right under your feet, you can safely be given an Egyptian passport. Unfortunately, it is impossible to re-educate them to another, or to prove that the planet needs to be taken care of.
The economy in the country is in dire straits, the government doesn't care about its citizens at all and is laundering money through building new settlement projects that won't be available for the next few years at least.
You always have to bargain in the market here. This is found in any tourist place, especially if the country is not rich. So such moments should not surprise you.
Part 2: Why Egypt is worth visiting: The Egyptians are the very first civilization. It is literally the story of the origin of life on planet Earth. Here you will find the mysterious pyramids, which are the wonder of the world. Driving south to Luxor you will admire the famous city of the dead, which you also saw in the movie The Mummy. You will drive along the longest river in the world, the Nile, and along the way you will see small villages where people still ride donkeys. In cities such as Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh and Marsa Alam you will swim in the Red Sea, which thanks to the concentration of salt and minerals works to heal your skin. Here you can also see the amazing underwater world, go on a desert safari, and even dine with the Bedouins!
Conclusion: For us, Egypt is not clear, because everything is different here, not like we are used to. But all this can be easily accepted and not focus on how it is customary in your country. You are visiting a foreign country, so you must respect the local rules and laws. In general, due to the fact that Egypt is a poor country, everything here is cheap and accessible to every tourist. Considering the fact that this place is super historical, beautiful and interesting, I strongly advise you to discover this place.
