“The Help”: Discrimination in Its Full Sense

Back to 1963, Jackson. Jim Crow laws in full swing. The Civil Rights Address by President John F.
Kennedy. The assassination of Medgar Evers, an African-American civil rights activist working on
desegregation and voting rights. These historical allusions encircle the whole movie in order to outline the
theme of discrimination expressed through the characters’ thoughts, actions, and their life in general.
