English is one of the most widely spoken languages globally and has had its international status for a long time. It originated in the early Middle Ages and was the mother tongue of the Germanic tribes who invaded Britain. Then, as its colonies spread throughout the world, it was taken up by people in America, Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand.
Today, English is still either the primary language or one of the official languages in all these countries, even after declaring independence. Many people in Europe also speak excellent English, so the number of speakers exceeded the one billion mark a long time ago. The international nature of the language makes it indispensable for future career development. This is also true for our country because almost every Ukrainian organisation today has foreign partners.
In my opinion, it is a must to learn English even for those people who are not going to move abroad or connect their work with foreign organisations. Any trip outside our country almost always involves communication with English-speaking tourists or locals, so ignorance of this language can complicate or even spoil a holiday.
